Marn the Rose Knight is used to saving the world, but can Kiyn help her learn to save herself?

About Rhiannon Louve

Rhiannon Louve is a freelance writer. Professionally, she writes short stories, video game dialogue, table-top role-playing books, privately commissioned fiction, and the occasional Pagan thea/ology. For fun, she writes whole series of novels. In addition, Rhiannon has her MA in Applied Theology and has taught World Religions at the college level. In her spare time, Rhiannon attends local conventions (OryCon, RadCon, GameStorm, and others) and games (Champions, Star Wars, and a 1/2 Exalted 1/2 homebrew Bleach-inspired shinigami game at the moment, though she wants to start a Blue Rose game). She also sings and plays keyboard, cuddles her dogs and cat, and pursues a primate psychology and language-study hobby (French, Spanish, Japanese, Irish, and Swedish).

Rhiannon's Inspiration

"I wanted to write for Blue Rose because I believe in what the Blue Rose game stands for. It's a different type of fantasy storytelling that I think a lot of players crave, and that isn't always easy in the older, traditional tabletop rpgs. I adore the other type too, but Blue Rose fills a niche that I think desperately needed to be filled, and I was so excited when Green Ronin put out a new (even better!) version of the game! I was even more excited when I heard there would be tie-in fiction. I knew I needed to write Blue Rose fiction. I'd have been happy with whatever story I got to do in the Blue Rose world, but I'm super grateful that this was the story the editors liked best. It was my favorite of all my pitches.

"I don't see a lot of fiction about older women, and I have a thing for big strong warrior women, so that's where I got the idea for Marn. She seemed like an underrepresented and super cool sort of character. Once I had the concept for Marn, the grizzled veteran, I thought, well, for Blue Rose I need relationships. What sort of relationship would most utterly turn Marn's world upside down and shake it? And then I came up with Kiyn. Everything mostly fell into place after that. I'm a very character- and world-driven writer, so once I have those settled, the plots tend to happen organically. I love writing about Marn and Kiyn. They give me warm fuzzies."
